In the lab last week, we were able to check the pH of some substances, using two different pH indicators: red cabbage solution and pH universal indicator.

The pH level of household items can vary widely depending on the specific item and its purpose. Here are some common household items and their approximate pH levels:

Vinegar is acidic, typically with a pH between 2 and 3. Pure water has a neutral pH of 7, soap is generally slightly alkaline, with a pH range of 8 to 10. Ammonia is highly alkaline, and its pH can range from 11 to 12 and finally, household bleach is highly alkaline, with a pH level around 12 to 13.

The students were quite amazed by the change of colours, depending on the acidity or basicity of the substance.
